A reminder to all resident shareholders that the AGM will be taking place in the Caister lounge from 10.00 am on Thursday the 1st December.

The Caister residents Christmas Lunch will be held in the dining room from 12.00 noon on Wednesday the 7th December.

On the 16th December the Caister residents are invited to the bi-annual Braai Day which will be held on the verandah from 12.00 noon. Come and join in the fun.

The Caister medical team invite each one of our residents to visit the very difficult topic of understanding and accepting the physical limitations that creep up on us during the later stages of life. One of the benefits of Caister living is that we don’t have to cook, clean or make beds. During performing these common chores, most elderly individuals will realise they cannot tuck the sheets in properly, or they have missed a pile of dust in the corner, small indicators that alert you to the reality of not being able to do as much as before. With the luxury of retirement hotel surroundings, you may only realise a lack of nimbleness when you miss a paving stone on the walkway or misjudge the distance between the lawn and the pathway, or even miscalculate the space between the table and the chair. You are then horribly reminded by a tumble or bruising your knees and your ego. Sr Karen and her team would like to remind the Caister community that now is the time to take things a little slower, place your feet a little firmer on the ground before you walk and use a walking stick for added stability and confidence.

The ongoing false alarms in respect of the fire alarm due to burnt toast, steaming bathrooms, smoking etc is very disturbing for other residents. Management will now be introducing fines for residents who blatantly disregard the above and create this unnecessary disruption.

Residents are once again urged to be mindful of the peak hours in respect of electricity consumption as well as during load shedding as the high cost of diesel is placing a strain on these overhead costs.

Once again I would like to appeal to all residents to please return all crockery, cutlery and glassware belonging to the Caister, as this equipment is vital to provide the correct service to all residents and the high cost of replacing same will affect the running costs of the company.

Even though we have now entered the rainy season, please continue to use water sparingly and preserve this important resource. Please see below the levels of the dams that feed the greater Durban area.

    Albert Falls Dam 96.50%
    Midmar Dam 98.90%
    Inanda Dam 102.00%
    Hazelmere Dam 52.70%

Wishing everyone a wonderful festive season and those who will be travelling to be with family and friends, may your travels be safe.
