Last month it was announced that the Fire Department will be addressing the Caister residents at 10.00 am on Wednesday the 5th October 2022 in the lounge on the preparedness in the event of a fire. All are expected to attend this address as the Fire Drill will be taking place on the 21st October 2022 and all residents need to be orientated on what to do and where to go in the event of a fire.

The clinic has received a few inquiries regarding further Covid Vaccine Boosters. The current situation is that revised vaccines are in production. These target new Covid variants identified and will result in a much higher efficacy in resistance against these new strains. We will communicate regarding the availability as soon as these are released for immunization.

The clinic staff have noticed an increase in the number of severe upper respiratory tract infections. These tend to have lingering effects, and in some cases, result in severe lung infection. If you are prone to bronchitis or pneumonia, please take extra health precautions such as immune-boosting supplements. We also urge you to consult your doctor if your symptoms continue for more than five days.

Some of the clinic suppliers have increased their prices of dressing products which will have an affect on the charges in the future. The increase to the Caister is effective from the 1st October 2022 but the clinic prices will only adjust on the 1st November as we still have stock at the old prices.

A reminder to all shareholders that the Caister AGM will be held in the lounge at 10.00 am on Thursday the 1st December 2022.

Another reminder for all the Caister residents to save the date of the Christmas Lunch will be held in the dining room on Wednesday the 7th December 2022.

The tray charge for Room Service will be amended with effect from the 1st November 2022 to keep up with rising costs as this charge has been the same for approximately 15 years. As previously mentioned in the Newsletter, all residents should make an effort to come to the dining room for meals for their own mental and physical benefit. The new charges will be R6.00 per tray for physically indisposed residents and R12.00 per tray for able bodied residents. Residents who are indisposed will require confirmation of their status from the Medical Services Manager, Sister Karen Breetzke.

Residents utilizing the bench near the main gate are respectfully requested to be mindful of residents in nearby apartments trying to rest and try not to raise their voices while communicating with friends, thank you.

Once again I need to address residents in respect of the catering equipment that is not returned timeously from the apartments. This creates a serious problem for all the catering staff as they are unable to provide you with the correct service as well as creating a financial burden on the Caister to replace these items. Please return all catering equipment belonging to the Caister back to the dining room.

The electricity supply status and the high cost of diesel is having a negative impact on the Caister’s utility charges. Not only was there a tariff increase of 11.49 % from the 1st July 2022 but also a peak hour increase which is three times the normal tariff. A reminder that the peak hours are between 07.00 am and 10.00 am as well as between 5.00 pm and 9.00 pm. Residents are respectfully requested to bear the above in mind while using air-cons, heaters etc during these hours.

As mentioned last month, the Caister has acquired another guest suite on the first floor, Hotel Block (Suite 109) to assist with accommodation for family and friends from out of town. This suite is currently available and the daily tariff for suite 109 will be the same as suite 144.

Please continue to be mindful of the high cost water which is also having an effect on the Caister’s utility costs. For your information, please see below the current data of the dam levels that feed the greater Durban area.

    Albert Falls Dam 93,30 %
    Midmar Dam 92,00%
    Inanda Dam 101,40 %
    Hazelmere Dam 49,00 %
