Happy New Year to all at Caister and may 2023 be a wonderful year. Welcome back to all residents who were visiting family and friends during the Festive Season.

The Kwa-Zulu Natal Philharmonic Orchestra will be performing on the Caister verandah on Thursday the 2nd February 2023 at 11.00am. Residents who will be attending are to be seated by 10.45 am.

On Thursday the 23rd February 2023 a group called Con Vocare will be performing in the Caister Lounge from 6.00 pm with music from Mozart and songs from the musicals.

The Buddy Buddy system is alive and well at Caister Lodge and a big thank you to residents for your care and concern for your neighbours and friends which SAVES LIVES. Well done for raising your concerns to both management and clinic staff.

As we are all acutely aware, the Durban summer season is in full swing, with the humidity levels causing temperatures to rise beyond the 30 degrees Celsius on an almost daily basis. In view of the above, please remember that staying hydrated will help combat feelings of fatigue, weakness and dizziness. We are all aware that we should increase our water intake BUT please remember that too much water can also be harmful as it dilutes the salt, potassium and magnesium in our bloodstream, making us susceptible to muscle cramps and nausea. It is recommended that alternating an electrolyte drink (Energade, Powerade , Lucozade or rehydrate) between glasses of water during these very hot and humid days will assist to combat fatigue, muscle cramps, memory loss, lethargy as well as assist kidney functions. Rehydration sachets are available in the clinic at a nominal cost.

The flower arrangements at the entrance and plants in the garden are not there for residents to help themselves to so please refrain from removing these flowers. These flowers are for all residents and visitors to appreciate and not for the privileged few to place them in their apartments.

Residents who walk outside of Caister grounds are to be extremely vigilant as there have been some muggings recently near the bridge in Musgrave Road which crosses Sydenham Road.

The long awaited installation of the hairdressing salon on the first floor of the Hotel Block has commenced and will keep you posted on the progress thereof.

Residents who smoke are reminded to please make use of the designated smoking area behind the clinic and consider your neighbours by not smoking in your apartments.

Residents are once again urged to be mindful of the peak hours in respect of electricity consumption as well as during load shedding as the high cost of diesel is placing a strain on these overhead costs.

Once again I would like to appeal to all residents to please return all crockery, cutlery and glassware belonging to the Caister, as this equipment is vital to provide the correct service to all residents and the high cost of replacing same will affect the running costs of the company.

As the annual levy increase has been announced by the board of directors, residents who pay their monthly account by stop order are advised to enquire from the admin department the new monthly cost and amend same at their bank.

The rainy season has provided us with an abundance of water and many dams in the area are at capacity. Even though the dams are at capacity please continue to use water sparingly and preserve this important resource and contain the cost thereof which is spiraling out of control. Please see below the current levels of the dams that feed the greater Durban area.

    Albert Falls Dam 101.22%
    Midmar Dam 100.76%
    Inanda Dam 102.20%
    Hazelmere Dam 53.29%
